The ARTHROFIX® AIR is an ankle brace worn inside a shoe to hold the ankle steady while it is still being used — after a sprain, after a capsule or ligament tear, or where the joint has become unstable over time.

An anatomically pre-moulded shell sits on each side of the ankle and limits it rolling inwards or outwards, while bending the foot up and down stays free, so walking is not blocked. Inside each shell is a two-chamber air cushion that works on the pneumatic principle: it shapes itself to the ankle, keeps steady pressure on the swelling, and can be topped up through a valve as the swelling settles.

It comes in one size, for the left or the right ankle, and is closed with two adjustable straps.

Is this the right one for you?

Choose this if you have sprained the ankle or torn a ligament, or it keeps giving way.

Everyday ache or swelling? Sporlastic MALLEO-HiT SUPREME Ankle Support is a lighter compression support.

Prescribed a boot after a fracture or surgery? Sporlastic MALLEO-CAST GEL Ankle Brace immobilises the ankle and foot.

Want something less rigid? Bauerfeind MalleoTrain S Ankle Brace gives support you can move in more easily.

  • Wash the ARTHROFIX AIR air cushions gently in lukewarm water (30 °C) with mild detergent and air dry
  • Do not dry it in the tumble dryer, on the heating or in the microwave
  • The side shells can be cleaned with a damp cloth

Sporlastic prints these steps in the instructions for use supplied with the product.

  • We recommend wearing a stocking under the brace.
  • Place your heel on the foot pad of the opened brace. The padded sides point upwards.
  • Pass the lower and upper hook-and-loop straps through the deflection loops. Adjust the foot pad to your ankle width using the two hook-and-loop points, then fasten the foot pad to the side shells. Now align the brace on the lower leg so that the curves of the anatomically shaped side shells, with the air cushions, lie over the inner or outer ankle. Hold this position.
  • Fix the lower hook-and-loop fastener first. When closing the hook-and-loop fastener, make sure that the pre-fixed position of the side shells from step 2 is maintained.
  • Finally, fix the brace with the upper hook-and-loop strap.
  • The stability effect of the brace is optimised by wearing it in a closed shoe.
  • Depending on how much tension you apply through the upper strap, air is pushed from the smaller part of the air chamber into the larger part. This gives an individual, form-fitting adaptation to the inner or outer ankle.
