Collamed® is a long soft knee brace with a rigid frame and hinges that can be set to limit how far the knee straightens and how far it bends. It wraps around the leg and closes at the front, so it goes on without threading the foot through a sleeve.

It is for a knee under ligament treatment: rupture of the medial collateral ligament, non-surgical treatment of collateral ligament lesions, chronic instability, care after a cruciate ligament rupture, meniscus injuries combined with collateral ligament injuries, mild instabilities of the cruciate ligaments, traumatic or degenerative deformities of the knee joint, and mild to moderate osteoarthritis.

Stability comes from the 4-point principle and the rigid frame at the sides. Wedges that change without tools set extension at 0, 10, 20 or 30 degrees and flexion at 0, 10, 20, 30, 45, 60, 75 or 90 degrees; the brace is delivered with extension 0 and flexion 90 fitted. medi's physioglide hinge follows the knee's rolling and gliding movement instead of turning on one pivot, and breathable net material runs down the back of the leg. Two lengths are made, standard and long.

Hand wash only, in lukewarm water (about 30°C/86°F) with a mild detergent
Close all hook-and-loop (velcro) fasteners, straps, and zippers before washing to protect the fabric
Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or harsh chemicals; do not dry clean
Remove and clean any removable pads or cushions separately with water or mild soap
Air dry fully -- do not tumble dry, use a hair dryer, or dry in direct sunlight
Apply skin creams or lotions after removing the support in the evening, not right before putting it on, since they can affect the material's properties

medi publishes these steps for putting the brace on. Ask a trained fitter to show you the first time.

Undo all the straps and both hook-and-loop strips, and slide the two small plastic plates supplied with the brace between each strap and its guide.
Pull the straps back out of the way and bend your leg to about 45 degrees.
Wrap the brace round the leg from behind and close the two hook-and-loop strips.
Check that the kneecap sits centrally in the patella opening, and that the middle of each hinge is level with the top edge of the kneecap and just behind the side centre line of the leg.
Fasten the lower calf strap at the front, then the lower calf strap at the back.
Fasten the upper thigh strap and take out its plastic plate, then close the strap just below the kneecap at the front and its matching strap at the back.
Close the remaining lower thigh strap and take out the last plastic plate.
Walk a few steps if you can and correct the position if the brace has moved.
