medi ROM is a universal knee splint: a padded cotton cuff around the thigh and another around the calf, joined by an adjustable bar on each side. It is not sized to the leg, so one splint covers a wide range of wearers; the pads and bars are adjusted to fit.

It is for immobilising the knee after an operation and mobilising it in stages afterwards, and for holding an injured or repaired collateral ligament steady.

The patented QuickSet hinge sets the limits in steps of 10 to 15 degrees: flexion at 0, 10, 20, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 105 or 120 degrees, extension at 0, 10, 20 or 30, and full immobilisation at 0, 10, 20 or 30 degrees. The same splint therefore carries someone from a locked knee straight after surgery through to controlled bending later on. Click-close strap fasteners make it quick to open and close, and the skin-friendly padding adjusts to the leg. Two lengths are made, 57 cm and 63 cm.

Is this the right one for you?

Choose this if you were prescribed a brace to hold the knee still or to limit how far it bends after surgery or injury.

This is a medical-grade orthopaedic brace that incorporates rigid splint. Braces and orthoses built with rigid components are usually covered under Canadian extended health benefit plans (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada) when accompanied by a valid prescription from your physician or nurse practitioner. It may also qualify as an eligible medical expense under the CRA's Medical Expense Tax Credit. We're happy to prepare an itemized estimate for your insurer — use Get an Insurance Estimate for this item, or add several to your cart and request one for everything at once. No charge, and it's not an order. Coverage details, annual limits, and prescription requirements vary by plan, so please confirm your specific benefits with your provider and keep your prescription and itemized receipt for your claim.

  • Length is the splint measured end to end, not around your leg. The longer one reaches further up the thigh and further down the calf; width adjusts with the cuffs and side bars, so there is one universal size.

  • Hand wash only, in lukewarm water (about 30°C/86°F) with a mild detergent
  • Close all hook-and-loop (velcro) fasteners, straps, and zippers before washing to protect the fabric
  • Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or harsh chemicals; do not dry clean
  • Remove and clean any removable pads or cushions separately with water or mild soap
  • Air dry fully -- do not tumble dry, use a hair dryer, or dry in direct sunlight
  • Apply skin creams or lotions after removing the support in the evening, not right before putting it on, since they can affect the material's properties

medi publishes these steps for putting the splint on. Ask a trained fitter to show you the first time.

  • Open all the straps and take the hinged bars out of the cotton pads.
  • Wrap the cotton calf and thigh pads firmly around the leg and fasten them at the front.
  • Attach the outer bar to the pad first, with the hinge level with the kneecap and the midline of the knee.
  • Attach the inner bar the same way, checking that the two hinges sit at the same height.
  • Fasten the upper calf strap, then the lower thigh strap, then the remaining straps from the bottom upwards.
  • To take the splint off, open the straps and the pads and draw the splint off backwards.
