Stabimed® is the short version of medi's functional soft knee brace. Like the longer Collamed® it wraps around the leg and closes at the front, and its hinges take wedges that limit how far the knee straightens and bends, but it covers less of the thigh and calf.

It is for collateral lesions and instabilities, mild to moderate and chronic instability of the knee joint, meniscus injuries, structural relaxation, traumatic or degenerative changes at the knee joint, and mild to moderate osteoarthritis.

Wedges change without tools: extension can be set at 0, 10, 20 or 30 degrees, flexion at 0, 10, 20, 30, 45, 60, 75 or 90 degrees, and full immobilisation at 0, 10, 20 or 30 degrees. The brace arrives with extension 0 and flexion 90 fitted. A rigid frame holds the sides steady and blocks hyperextension, the physioglide hinge follows the knee's rolling and gliding movement rather than one pivot point, and hard-wearing net material down the back of the leg keeps it breathable. medi prints that this brace contains rigid material.

Hand wash only, in lukewarm water (about 30°C/86°F) with a mild detergent
Close all hook-and-loop (velcro) fasteners, straps, and zippers before washing to protect the fabric
Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or harsh chemicals; do not dry clean
Remove and clean any removable pads or cushions separately with water or mild soap
Air dry fully -- do not tumble dry, use a hair dryer, or dry in direct sunlight
Apply skin creams or lotions after removing the support in the evening, not right before putting it on, since they can affect the material's properties

medi publishes these steps for putting the brace on. Ask a trained fitter to show you the first time.

Open all the straps and both hook-and-loop fasteners, and pull the two straps back so they are out of the way.
Bend your leg to about 45 degrees.
Wrap the brace round the leg from behind and close the two hook-and-loop strips.
Check that the kneecap sits in the middle of the patella opening, and that the centre of each hinge is at the top edge of the kneecap and just behind the side centre line of the leg.
Close the bottom strap, then the top strap.
Walk a few steps if you can and correct the fit if the brace has moved.
