Movement-limiting ankle orthosis with adjustable air cushions

Combined with shoes, the AirLoc stabilizes the ankle and prevents recurring sprains following an acute injury. Two anatomically contoured, cushioned plastic shells are connected flexibly below the heel, allowing the orthosis to adapt perfectly to the width of the foot. Thanks to an inflatable air cushion integrated into the outer shell, the AirLoc’s shape can be individually adjusted to the degree of swelling when putting on the orthosis.

Is this the right one for you?

Choose this if you have sprained the ankle or torn a ligament, or it keeps giving way.

Everyday ache or swelling? Bauerfeind MalleoTrain Ankle Brace is a lighter compression support.

Prescribed a boot after a fracture or surgery? Actimove Standard Air Walker immobilises the ankle and foot.

Want something less rigid? Bauerfeind MalleoTrain S Ankle Brace gives support you can move in more easily.

  • Stabilizes the lateral capsular ligament structure of the upper ankle, thanks to anatomically contoured plastic shells, thus preventing the foot from spraining (particularly when used in combination with shoes)
  • Pronation and supination are mechanically restricted to prevent recurring trauma
  • The flat, anatomically contoured orthosis has been designed for acute treatment in particular, and is available in one universal size for the right / left foot
  • The insides feature extensive foam pads in a soft microfiber top cover
  • Two anatomically contoured plastic shells form a U splint and are secured with two anatomically contoured Velcro straps that are wound around the ankle and lower leg in a circle
  • The shells are elastically linked to each other underneath the heel bone and therefore adapt to the individual width of the foot and current degree of swelling

This is a medical-grade orthopaedic brace that incorporates rigid splint. Braces and orthoses built with rigid components are usually covered under Canadian extended health benefit plans (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Great-West Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada) when accompanied by a valid prescription from your physician or nurse practitioner. It may also qualify as an eligible medical expense under the CRA's Medical Expense Tax Credit. We're happy to provide a pre-approval form for your insurance provider — just contact us before ordering. Coverage details, annual limits, and prescription requirements vary by plan, so please confirm your specific benefits with your provider and keep your prescription and itemized receipt for your claim.

Sized on ankle circumference — measure around the narrowest part of the ankle, just above the ankle bone. Check this product's size chart below before ordering. If you're between sizes, contact us and we'll help you measure.

  • Machine wash in cold or cool water (about 30°C/86°F) on the gentle or delicate cycle
  • Wash with similar colours using a regular detergent with no additives -- avoid fabric softener
  • Use a mesh laundry bag, and secure hook-and-loop (velcro) tabs first to protect the knit
  • Hand washing is gentler and may extend the product's life
  • For light use, washing every two to three wears is enough; heavy use needs more frequent washing
  • Lay flat to air dry -- do not hang to dry (the fabric can stretch out of shape) and do not tumble dry
