The VERTEBRADYN® FORCE is a lumbar brace that bridges the lower back: instead of only holding the trunk, it carries part of the load of the upper body down onto the pelvis. It is used where the lumbar spine needs relief and correcting — a disc problem, and after disc surgery.

A frame runs down the back and takes the bridging load; it lifts out, so the brace can be worn without it once therapy allows. Straps on the pelvis and trunk find their own line as they are pulled, and a four-way pulley means the wearer gets a firm closure without much hand strength. Reducing the inward curve of the lower back is the point of the design: it also cuts down twisting.

The body of the brace is a breathable 3D flat knit over a spacer fabric, so air moves through it while it is worn under clothing.

Is this the right one for you?

Choose this if you have been told the problem is a disc — a bulge, a prolapse, or recovery after disc surgery.

Been told it is the facet joints? medi Lumbamed Facet Back Support relieves those small spinal joints specifically.

  • Spondylolisthesis with recurrent lumbosciatica

This is a medical-grade orthopaedic brace that incorporates rigid structural support. Braces and orthoses built with rigid components are usually covered under Canadian extended health benefit plans (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada) when accompanied by a valid prescription from your physician or nurse practitioner. It may also qualify as an eligible medical expense under the CRA's Medical Expense Tax Credit. We're happy to prepare an itemized estimate for your insurer — use Get an Insurance Estimate for this item, or add several to your cart and request one for everything at once. No charge, and it's not an order. Coverage details, annual limits, and prescription requirements vary by plan, so please confirm your specific benefits with your provider and keep your prescription and itemized receipt for your claim.

  • Wash VERTEBRADYN FORCE gently in hand-hot water (30 °C) with a fine detergent and leave it to dry naturally
  • Do not dry VERTEBRADYN FORCE in a tumble drier, on a radiator or in the microwave
  • Remove the frame before washing
  • The cover can be washed at the same time
  • Close the hook-and-loop fasteners when washing so that they remain functional for longer and prevent damage to other items of clothing
  • Tension, which declines over the period of wear, is restored to the shaped knitted fabric by washing it
  • Sporlastic therefore recommends washing the brace frequently

Sporlastic prints these steps in the instructions for use supplied with the product.

  • We recommend wearing a thin, tight-fitting T-shirt under the product.
  • Loosen the straps and guide your hands into the hand slings at the front.
  • Place the brace around your body and position the back section centrally over the spine. The orange-coloured lower edge of the brace ends above the sacrum. The frame extends from the lower ribs to the waist.
  • Close the front fastening so that the brace builds up a comfortable pressure. Optionally you can use the abdominal plate, fastening it between the two closures.
  • Tighten the two lower tension elements evenly on the abdominal fastening. Then tighten the upper tension elements.
  • The lower front edge should run flush and parallel with the thigh when you sit, and should not press into the crease of the groin.
  • VERTEBRADYN® FORCE has to be individually fitted to the patient by trained personnel; only then can it deliver its full performance and wearing comfort. The steps that follow are for the orthopaedic technician.
  • The height of the brace frame can be adjusted.
  • To do this, undo the relevant screws with a 2.5 mm Allen key and set the height.
  • The wings of the lower part of the frame should lie between the iliac crest and the greater trochanter. The wings of the upper part of the frame should enclose the lower rib.
  • Once the height is correctly adjusted, fasten the screws on the orthotic frame at the appropriate points.
  • The back frame is made of hard aluminium and can be shaped by hand or with a bending iron.
  • The spring steel bars can be individually shaped.
  • VERTEBRADYN FORCE extends from the anterior costal arch to the symphysis.
  • As mobilisation increases, the brace can be reduced step by step in consultation with the treating doctor: the frame or the abdominal plate can be taken out of it.
  • The brace assumes the function of a bridging brace.
  • By removing the abdominal plate and frame, VERTEBRADYN FORCE becomes a lumbar support brace.
