Manumed RFX is the most immobilising brace in the Manumed range: extra-long aluminium splints run along both the palm side and the back of the forearm, so the wrist is held in at least two directions. medi presents it as an effective alternative to a traditional plaster cast.

It is for post-operative use after fractures of the distal radius and forearm, non-surgical use after a stable distal radius fracture, immobilisation of severe wrist sprains, tendonitis and tendovaginitis, osteoarthritis of the wrist, and immobilisation after soft tissue injuries — with the fingers left free to move throughout.

Both splints are anatomically pre-shaped. The palm-side one lifts out to be bent to your arm; the one at the back is adjusted on the brace itself. Highly elastic mesh keeps the brace breathable, and an extra-wide opening means the hand goes in without opening the straps, which arrive set to their widest. The four straps close in numbered order and can be shortened to length. Made as a left or a right. medi prints that this brace contains rigid material.

Hand wash only, in lukewarm water (about 30°C/86°F) with a mild detergent
Close all hook-and-loop (velcro) fasteners, straps, and zippers before washing to protect the fabric
Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or harsh chemicals; do not dry clean
Remove and clean any removable pads or cushions separately with water or mild soap
Air dry fully -- do not tumble dry, use a hair dryer, or dry in direct sunlight
Apply skin creams or lotions after removing the support in the evening, not right before putting it on, since they can affect the material's properties

medi publishes these steps for putting the brace on, and asks that the first fitting is supervised by a healthcare professional.

If the splints need shaping, take the palm-side one out and bend it to your hand and arm; the splint at the back is adjusted on the brace itself.
Slide your hand into the brace. The straps come set to their widest, so you usually will not have to open them first.
Close all four straps one after another in their numbered order, 1 to 4.
Straps 2 to 4 are held on by double-sided hook-and-loop and can be shortened to the length you need.
Check the fit: the brace should sit firmly and straight on the arm without cutting in, and you should be able to move all your fingers freely.
