Manumed active is the soft member of the Manumed family: a compression knit wrist support with a removable splint in a pocket along the palm and a strap around the wrist. It limits movement rather than immobilising the joint.

It is for wrist injuries such as sprains and distortions, post-traumatic, post-operative and rheumatic inflammation, osteoarthrosis of the wrist, tenosynovitis and instability.

Knit, strap and splint together stop the wrist making the movements that hurt, which takes load off the forearm muscles and the tendons and their attachments and calms the irritation; the class 2 compression improves blood flow through the soft tissue, so swelling and bruising settle. The splint is matched to the size of the brace rather than one length for every size, a comfort zone with extra stretch sits around the thumb, and an opening in the strap keeps pressure off the bony knob on the little-finger side of the wrist. A donning aid is included. Made as a left or a right. medi prints that it contains rigid material.

Not suitable for: diseases or injuries of the skin where the support sits, especially with inflammatory signs such as unusual warmth, swelling or redness; altered sensation or circulation disorders of the forearm or hand, for example with diabetes; or lymph drainage disorders and unexplained soft tissue swelling outside the treated area.

Hand wash only, in lukewarm water (about 30°C/86°F) with a mild detergent

medi publishes these steps for putting the support on, and asks that qualified staff instruct you the first time.

Open the strap before you start.
Fold back the lower end of the support and slide the splint into the pocket on the inside, checking it is the right way round for the pocket.
Pull the support over your hand so the letter m on the outside faces up, on the back of your hand.
Close the strap so that the opening in it sits over the bony knob on the little-finger side of the wrist.
To take it off, open the strap, reach inside the support from the palm side and pull it off the hand while pressing against the inner pocket and splint.

medi says the support can in principle be worn all day but should come off for long rests such as sleeping, and that this should follow how you feel. It may be worn in water; rinse it thoroughly afterwards. If symptoms suddenly worsen, take it off and contact your doctor or fitter.
