Genumedi® PT is the Genumedi knee support rebuilt for a kneecap that tracks off to the outside. The silicone ring around the kneecap is reinforced on its outer edge so it nudges the kneecap back towards the groove it should run in, and two precisely placed 3D pads work on the thigh muscles that steer it.

It is for patellofemoral pain syndrome caused by muscular imbalance, patellar maltracking, patellar lateralisation, a hypermobile kneecap or malalignment, and for post-operative treatment after the kneecap has been stabilised.

The aim is muscular balance. One pad relaxes the vastus lateralis on the outside of the thigh while the other activates the vastus medialis on the inside, so the two pull the kneecap more evenly; a control strap sets how much pressure lands on the outer muscle, and the compressive class 2 knit adds proprioception (your body's sense of where it is in space) on top. medi prints that this support contains semi-rigid material. It is made in separate left and right versions, so order the side you need.

Is this the right one for you?

Choose this if the pain is at the front, around or just below the kneecap — worst on stairs, squatting or after sitting.

Everyday ache or swelling? medi Genumedi Knee Brace is a lighter compression support.

Knee gives way or shifts? medi Genumedi Pro Knee Orthosis adds hinges for side-to-side stability.

Need firmer support? Bauerfeind Merino Knee Brace is built with rigid stays for more hold.

This is a medical-grade orthopaedic brace that incorporates semi-rigid structural support. Braces and orthoses built with semi-rigid components are usually covered under Canadian extended health benefit plans (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada) when accompanied by a valid prescription from your physician or nurse practitioner. It may also qualify as an eligible medical expense under the CRA's Medical Expense Tax Credit. We're happy to prepare an itemized estimate for your insurer — use Get an Insurance Estimate for this item, or add several to your cart and request one for everything at once. No charge, and it's not an order. Coverage details, annual limits, and prescription requirements vary by plan, so please confirm your specific benefits with your provider and keep your prescription and itemized receipt for your claim.

  • Hand wash only, in lukewarm water (about 30°C/86°F) with a mild detergent
  • Close all hook-and-loop (velcro) fasteners, straps, and zippers before washing to protect the fabric
  • Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or harsh chemicals; do not dry clean
  • Remove and clean any removable pads or cushions separately with water or mild soap
  • Air dry fully -- do not tumble dry, use a hair dryer, or dry in direct sunlight
  • Apply skin creams or lotions after removing the support in the evening, not right before putting it on, since they can affect the material's properties

medi publishes these steps for putting the support on. Ask a trained fitter to show you the first time.

  • Open the strap.
  • Take hold of the support with your thumbs on the upper end of the nubbed side bands.
  • Pull it up over the knee so the silicone ring sits centrally around the kneecap and does not press on it.
  • Close the strap and set the pressure to suit you.
  • Check again that the support feels comfortable.
  • To take it off, open the strap, take hold of the lower side bars and pull the support down.

medi says the support achieves its greatest effect during physical activity.
