This is a medical-grade orthopaedic brace that incorporates semi-rigid structural support. Fit is the cut at the top, not the size: Extra-Wide (topband) is the same size number made wider for a fuller thigh, finished with a topband at the top edge.

Extra wide starts at size III; sizes I and II are made in the standard fit only. The calf range is the same in either fit.

Hand wash only, in lukewarm water (about 30°C/86°F) with a mild detergent
Close all hook-and-loop (velcro) fasteners, straps, and zippers before washing to protect the fabric
Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or harsh chemicals; do not dry clean
Remove and clean any removable pads or cushions separately with water or mild soap
Air dry fully -- do not tumble dry, use a hair dryer, or dry in direct sunlight
Apply skin creams or lotions after removing the support in the evening, not right before putting it on, since they can affect the material's properties

medi publishes these steps for putting the support on. Ask a trained fitter to show you the first time.

Open the strap.
Take hold of the support with your thumbs on the upper end of the nubbed side bands.
Pull it up over the knee so the silicone ring sits centrally around the kneecap and does not press on it.
Close the strap and set the pressure to suit you.
Check again that the support feels comfortable.
To take it off, open the strap, take hold of the lower side bars and pull the support down.
