Genumedi® pro is the hinged member of the Genumedi family: the same compressive knit and silicone kneecap ring, with a hinge on each side of the joint and a strap circling the thigh and the calf.

It is for a knee that needs more than compression, including mild to moderate instability of the knee joint, osteoarthritis of the knee, mild meniscus injuries, mild lateral ligament instabilities, and post-operative stabilisation and compression, for example after a partial meniscectomy or cartilage smoothing.

medi's Easyglide hinges follow the knee's own rolling and gliding movement rather than turning on a single pivot, so the joint is steadied without being forced through an arc that does not match it. The two circular straps add hold, a silicone coating at the back of the thigh section stops the orthosis working its way down, and a recessed grip along the top edge gives you something to pull on. medi prints that this orthosis contains rigid material. Extra-wide fittings cover larger thigh and calf circumferences at the same size number.

Is this the right one for you?

Choose this if the knee feels like it gives way or shifts, and you want hinged support rather than compression alone.

Torn ligament, or repaired one? medi Collamed Knee Brace is a rigid frame brace built to protect the ligament.

Everyday ache or swelling? medi Genumedi E+motion Knee Support is a lighter compression support.

This is a medical-grade orthopaedic brace that incorporates rigid structural support. Braces and orthoses built with rigid components are usually covered under Canadian extended health benefit plans (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada) when accompanied by a valid prescription from your physician or nurse practitioner. It may also qualify as an eligible medical expense under the CRA's Medical Expense Tax Credit. We're happy to prepare an itemized estimate for your insurer — use Get an Insurance Estimate for this item, or add several to your cart and request one for everything at once. No charge, and it's not an order. Coverage details, annual limits, and prescription requirements vary by plan, so please confirm your specific benefits with your provider and keep your prescription and itemized receipt for your claim.

  • Fit is the cut, not the size. Extra-Wide keeps the same calf size, is a step wider through the thigh, and has a top band.

  • Hand wash only, in lukewarm water (about 30°C/86°F) with a mild detergent
  • Close all hook-and-loop (velcro) fasteners, straps, and zippers before washing to protect the fabric
  • Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or harsh chemicals; do not dry clean
  • Remove and clean any removable pads or cushions separately with water or mild soap
  • Air dry fully -- do not tumble dry, use a hair dryer, or dry in direct sunlight
  • Apply skin creams or lotions after removing the support in the evening, not right before putting it on, since they can affect the material's properties

medi publishes these steps for putting the orthosis on. Ask a trained fitter to show you the first time.

  • Open both straps.
  • Take hold of the brace with your thumb inside the upper end of the nubbed side bands.
  • Pull it over the knee so the silicone ring encircles the kneecap centrally and without pressure. The middle of the hinge should then line up with the top edge of the kneecap.
  • Close both straps.
  • To take it off, open both straps, take hold of the lower edge and pull the brace down.

medi says supports of this kind give most benefit during physical activity.
