This is a medical-grade orthopaedic brace that incorporates semi-rigid structural support. Braces and orthoses built with semi-rigid components are usually covered under Canadian extended health benefit plans (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada) when accompanied by a valid prescription from your physician or nurse practitioner. Fit is the cut at the top, not the size: Extra-Wide (topband) is the same size number made wider for a fuller thigh, finished with a topband at the top edge.

Extra wide with topband starts at size III; sizes 0, I and II are made in the standard fit only. The calf range is the same in either fit.

Sizes 0 to II also fit children and teenagers.

Hand wash only, in lukewarm water (about 30°C/86°F) with a mild detergent
Close all hook-and-loop (velcro) fasteners, straps, and zippers before washing to protect the fabric
Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or harsh chemicals; do not dry clean
Remove and clean any removable pads or cushions separately with water or mild soap
Air dry fully -- do not tumble dry, use a hair dryer, or dry in direct sunlight
Apply skin creams or lotions after removing the support in the evening, not right before putting it on, since they can affect the material's properties

medi publishes these steps for putting the support on. Ask a trained fitter to show you the first time.

Open both straps.
Take hold of the support with your thumb inside the top end of the side stabilising rods.
Pull it over the knee so the two silicone pads sit centrally over the kneecap without pressing on it, with the smaller tendon pad below the kneecap over the patellar tendon.
With the leg slightly bent, close the front strap, checking that it runs over the small pad.
Close the rear strap.
If the strap is too long, open the hook-and-loop fastener at its end and cut it to length.
Check the position of the support again.
To take it off, open both straps, reach into the support from the bottom and pull it down.
