medi Epibrace is an epicondylitis strap: a single band that goes around the forearm just below the elbow, carrying one movable pad. It presses on the muscle belly and the tendon attachment rather than covering the joint, so the elbow itself stays free.

It is for epicondylitis — tennis elbow and golfer's elbow.

The pad slides along the strap and can be set for either side of either arm, so one article covers tennis elbow and golfer's elbow, left and right. Taking load off the muscle origins can reduce the pain you feel on movement. A numbered scale on the strap lets you find the right tightness for your forearm and repeat it exactly next time, and a support strap makes it easier to put on with one hand. The soft edge is gentle on skin and does not dig in. It is made in one universal size for a forearm up to 36 cm around. medi says to take the strap off during long periods of rest, such as sleeping.

Is this the right one for you?

Choose this if the pain is on the side of the elbow and worst when you grip or lift — tennis or golfer's elbow.

Everyday ache from overuse? Sporlastic EPIDYN Elbow Support is a lighter support.

Diagnosed with arthritis? Actimove Arthritis Care Elbow Support is built for arthritic elbow pain.

Want something less rigid? medi Epicomed Elbow Support gives support you can move in more easily.

This is a medical-grade orthopaedic brace that incorporates rigid structural support. Braces and orthoses built with rigid components are usually covered under Canadian extended health benefit plans (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada) when accompanied by a valid prescription from your physician or nurse practitioner. It may also qualify as an eligible medical expense under the CRA's Medical Expense Tax Credit. We're happy to prepare an itemized estimate for your insurer — use Get an Insurance Estimate for this item, or add several to your cart and request one for everything at once. No charge, and it's not an order. Coverage details, annual limits, and prescription requirements vary by plan, so please confirm your specific benefits with your provider and keep your prescription and itemized receipt for your claim.

  • Hand wash only, in lukewarm water (about 30°C/86°F) with a mild detergent
  • Close all hook-and-loop (velcro) fasteners, straps, and zippers before washing to protect the fabric
  • Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or harsh chemicals; do not dry clean
  • Remove and clean any removable pads or cushions separately with water or mild soap
  • Air dry fully -- do not tumble dry, use a hair dryer, or dry in direct sunlight
  • Apply skin creams or lotions after removing the support in the evening, not right before putting it on, since they can affect the material's properties

medi publishes these steps for putting the strap on, and asks that a trained orthopaedic technician fits it the first time.

  • Open the strap and lay it out flat in front of you, fully unrolled.
  • Rest your forearm on it palm upwards, with the light grey positioning mark on the pad on the side of the arm where you feel the pain.
  • Attach the pad at the positioning mark so its tip is parallel to the elbow joint. For a tennis elbow in the right arm, for example, the mark ends up on the outer side of that arm.
  • Thread the strap through the plastic loop and close the fastening, leaving roughly 3 cm between the edge of the fastening and the point of the elbow with the arm bent.
  • Use your forearm circumference, measured 5 cm below the elbow joint, to read the guide value off medi's chart, and tighten the strap to that number; adjust from there to suit you.
  • Check it: make a fist and you should feel the muscle under the pad; with the muscles relaxed the strap should rest against the pad without a noticeable feeling of pressure, and should neither slip nor constrict the arm.

If the arm or hand goes numb, loosen the strap or take it off; if that does not settle, see a doctor. medi also asks that the strap comes off during long periods of rest, such as sleeping.
