VenoTrain® Ulcertec is a two-part system for an open venous leg ulcer. A white liner goes on first and holds the wound dressing against the leg; the skin-coloured overstocking, knitted in a patented rhomboid pattern, then pulls on over the top of it.

Together the two apply the graded pressure the lower leg needs for the ulcer to heal, and — unlike a compression bandage, which slips down and loses its pressure — the system stays where it is put, even while walking. It is designed so that most people can put it on without help. The liner is also worn on its own overnight to keep a low level of compression going around the clock. On the leg it looks and feels like an ordinary knee sock.

This listing is the knee-high sock in 30-40 mmHg — Bauerfeind's compression class 2 — with an open toe, which leaves the toes free: easier to pull on, and the usual choice if the toes are sensitive. Like every Bauerfeind product, it is made in Germany.

All figures in cm. Normal and Plus are the two circumference fits every size is made in; they change the leg measurements, not the ankle, which is the same for either.

Machine wash in cold or cool water (about 30°C/86°F) on the gentle or delicate cycle
Wash with similar colours using a regular detergent with no additives
Never use fabric softener — it can impair the medical effect of a compression garment
Use a mesh laundry bag to protect the knit; hand washing is gentler still and may extend the garment's life
For light use, washing every two to three wears is enough; heavy use needs more frequent washing
Wash regularly — regular washing is what keeps the knit and the seams at full compression
Lay flat to air dry — do not hang to dry (the fabric can stretch out of shape) and do not tumble dry
