Lateral stabilization of the ankle – removable in three stages

Orthoses help to protect an unstable ankle from excessive strain. The MalleoLoc L3 orthosis can be adapted for multi-stage treatment and patients with chronic conditions: its stabilizing protection can be adjusted in three steps depending on the progress of the treatment or individual requirements. Using an L shell and securing straps, it stabilizes at the outside of the ankle. In addition, a muscle-activating compression support is integrated. The shell and straps can be removed easily. The MalleoLoc L3 provides secure support and fits in narrow everyday shoes, thanks to its slim design.

Is this the right one for you?

Choose this if you have sprained the ankle or torn a ligament, or it keeps giving way.

Everyday ache or swelling? Bauerfeind MalleoTrain Ankle Brace is a lighter compression support.

Prescribed a boot after a fracture or surgery? Actimove Closed Shell Air Walker immobilises the ankle and foot.

Want something less rigid? Bauerfeind MalleoTrain Plus Ankle Brace gives support you can move in more easily.

  • The support’s soft tissue compression helps to reduce swelling more quickly, it improves proprioception (your body's sense of where it is in space), and activates the muscles
  • Provides lateral stabilization of the foot in the shoe and protects against sprains, without restricting the foot’s normal heel-to-toe movement
  • The L shell sits in front of the talus bone to counteract talar shift

This is a medical-grade orthopaedic brace that incorporates rigid structural support. Braces and orthoses built with rigid components are usually covered under Canadian extended health benefit plans (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Great-West Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada) when accompanied by a valid prescription from your physician or nurse practitioner. It also delivers 20-30 mmHg of graduated compression. It may also qualify as an eligible medical expense under the CRA's Medical Expense Tax Credit. We're happy to provide a pre-approval form for your insurance provider — just contact us before ordering. Coverage details, annual limits, and prescription requirements vary by plan, so please confirm your specific benefits with your provider and keep your prescription and itemized receipt for your claim.

  • Machine wash in cold or cool water (about 30°C/86°F) on the gentle or delicate cycle
  • Wash with similar colours using a regular detergent with no additives -- avoid fabric softener
  • Use a mesh laundry bag, and secure hook-and-loop (velcro) tabs first to protect the knit
  • Hand washing is gentler and may extend the product's life
  • For light use, washing every two to three wears is enough; heavy use needs more frequent washing
  • Lay flat to air dry -- do not hang to dry (the fabric can stretch out of shape) and do not tumble dry
