Targeted relief and stabilization for increased mobility with osteoarthritis

GenuTrain® OA with its innovative unloading system relieves the lateral or medial compartment of the knee based on the 3-point principle. The unloading relief is easily adjustable with the Boa Fit-System. A low-profile and lightweight design, combined with 3D AirKnit compression support, allows for unparalleled relief, joint control and all-day wearing comfort. Like every Bauerfeind product, it is made in Germany.

Is this the right one for you?

Choose this if the diagnosis is arthritis in the knee. Unloader braces shift weight off the worn side of the joint; warming compression supports ease the ache and stiffness.

Everyday ache or swelling? Bauerfeind GenuTrain Comfort Knee Brace with 5cm Top Band is a lighter compression support.

Torn ligament, or repaired one? Bauerfeind SecuTec Genu Flex Knee Brace is a rigid frame brace built to protect the ligament.

This is a medical-grade orthopaedic brace that incorporates rigid splint. Braces and orthoses built with rigid components are usually covered under Canadian extended health benefit plans (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada) when accompanied by a valid prescription from your physician or nurse practitioner. It may also qualify as an eligible medical expense under the CRA's Medical Expense Tax Credit. We're happy to prepare an itemized estimate for your insurer — use Get an Insurance Estimate for this item, or add several to your cart and request one for everything at once. No charge, and it's not an order. Coverage details, annual limits, and prescription requirements vary by plan, so please confirm your specific benefits with your provider and keep your prescription and itemized receipt for your claim.

Measure standing, with the knee bent to about 30 degrees — a slight bend, not a right angle.

Each Configuration fits two different knees:

  • Right Medial / Left Lateral — unloads the inner side of a right knee, or the outer side of a left knee.
  • Left Medial / Right Lateral — the mirror of it: inner side of a left knee, outer side of a right.

Check the size chart below. If your measurements don't fit a size on it, contact us and we'll help.

How to measure for this brace
Size12345
Top circumference (cm)17 cm above the middle of the knee, with the knee bent to 30°40 – 4747 – 5252 – 5857 – 6560 – 72
Bottom circumference (cm)15 cm below the middle of the knee, with the knee bent to 30°28 – 3434 – 3939 – 4343 – 4646 – 50

The 30° marked on the diagram is 30° of bend from a straight leg — a slightly bent knee, not a right angle.

Configuration is the side of the knee the brace takes pressure off. Medial means the inner side of the knee, the side facing your other leg; lateral means the outer side. One version covers a right knee with medial wear and a left knee with lateral wear, the other covers a left knee with medial wear and a right knee with lateral wear. If your prescription or imaging report names the affected compartment, follow it. If you're not sure which one you need, ask your prescribing clinician - which compartment is affected is not something we can determine for you.

Option guide
  • Machine wash separately at 30°C (86°F) with a liquid detergent.
  • Remove the hook-and-loop (Velcro) straps before washing where possible, or fasten them firmly in their designated place.
  • Remove pads or splints before washing if they can be taken out.
  • Use a laundry net and keep the spin cycle to a maximum of 500 revolutions per minute.
  • Air dry only — do not tumble dry, or the knitted fabric may be impaired.
  • Wash regularly so the knitted fabric keeps its compression.

The Boa dial does the work — the brace is put on loose and tightened once it is in place.

  • Open the dial to release the bands.
  • Slide the brace onto the leg using the large loops at the top and bottom edges.
  • Position it so the hinge sits level with the knee joint on the affected side.
  • Close the dial and turn it to build up the relieving pressure.
  • Turn it back at any time to ease off — for a longer walk or a rest — without undoing the straps.
