The NEURO-LUX® holds the shoulder together where the muscles around it have lost their power — after a stroke or another cause of flaccid paralysis, the weight of the arm can pull the head of the upper arm bone part-way out of the socket, which is painful and damages the capsule, tendons and nerves over time.

Two lifting straps carry the arm’s weight back up into the joint and hold the head of the humerus seated. The straps run diagonally and the elbow is enclosed, which turns the arm outward and corrects the inward rotation that goes with a paralysed shoulder. The hand and arm stay free to be used, and the guided arm swing that results makes walking steadier.

The arm element can be closed with one hand, so a wearer with one working arm can manage it alone. It is fitted by two measurements — forearm and chest.

Both measurements have to agree — the arm section sets the block of three, the chest section picks one of them.

Choose Left or Right to match the affected shoulder.

  • Wash NEURO-LUX gently in lukewarm water (30 °C) with mild detergent and air dry
  • Do not dry it in a tumble dryer, on a radiator or in the microwave

Sporlastic prints these steps in the instructions for use supplied with the product.

  • Wear NEURO-LUX® over a tight-fitting T-shirt or vest. The arm element should be worn directly against the skin.
  • The shoulder and arm sections are connected by the grey lifting strap at the back. Fasteners I, II and III are open.
  • Pull the shoulder element with the elasticated loop and the arm section over the affected arm. The shoulder element must sit snugly on the shoulder. Close the chest strap I.
  • The arm section sits with the circular recess over the tip of the elbow. Close the two fasteners II and III so that the arm section no longer slips.
  • Pull the orange lifting strap through between the arm and the body and close it on the fastener of the same colour at the front of the shoulder section.
  • To take it off, open the orange lifting strap at the front and release fastener I of the chest strap. Open fasteners II and III on the arm section, then slide the arm and shoulder sections off over your arm.
  • The brace should only be worn when awake, as there is a risk of pressure sores when sleeping.
