Medical-grade compression garments (20-30 mmHg and above) are commonly covered under Canadian extended health benefit plans (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada) when accompanied by a valid prescription from your physician or nurse practitioner. It may also qualify as an eligible medical expense under the CRA's Medical Expense Tax Credit. Measure the arm first thing in the morning, before swelling builds, with the tape snug but not tight.

Sizes are written as two letters, plus/P on some:

Size — set by your palm, wrist and upper arm
Length — R for Regular or L for Long, set by your arm length. So XL is X Large Long, not extra large.
/P — Plus: the same size cut wider through the upper arm

Wash after every wear, which maintains the compression and keeps the garment hygienic
Hand washing is recommended; you may machine wash on the gentle cycle in lukewarm water up to 40°C (104°F)
Turn the garment inside out and place it in a laundry net before washing
Use a mild detergent; never use bleach or fabric softener
Rinse well and air dry; do not tumble dry, iron or dry clean
Store at room temperature in a dry place, away from light and direct heat
Alternate two or more pairs, and replace them after about six months of daily wear, as compression diminishes with wearing and washing
