protect.CSB is a posture brace: elastic straps worn like the straps of a rucksack, with mouldable aluminium bars supporting the upper back. It is thin enough to be almost invisible under clothing.

It is for cases needing the thoracic vertebrae straightened and relieved — poor posture, postural or spinal deviations, posture-related pain in the spine, muscle weakness or imbalance in the back, and a hunched back with chronic back pain.

The straps draw the shoulders slightly back without limiting how far the shoulders and arms move, and that activates the back muscles so the body straightens itself; it is the muscles doing the work, not the brace. The aluminium bars bend to the shape of the back, an adjustable loop lets the strap system be positioned to suit, and the elastic straps can be cut to length. medi says that when the fit is right, the result should be less pain and more mobility. If pain gets worse while you are wearing it, stop and speak to your doctor or fitter.

Is this the right one for you?

Choose this if the pain is muscular or postural — everyday lower back pain, strain or fatigue, with no disc or joint diagnosis.

Been told it is a disc? medi Lumbamed Disc Back Support — Women is built for disc protrusion and prolapse.

Been told it is the facet joints? medi Lumbamed Facet Back Support relieves those small spinal joints specifically.

Pain lower down, across your pelvis or hips? medi Lumbamed Sacro Pelvic Support targets the joints where your spine meets your pelvis.

This is a medical-grade orthopaedic brace that incorporates rigid structural support. Braces and orthoses built with rigid components are usually covered under Canadian extended health benefit plans (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada) when accompanied by a valid prescription from your physician or nurse practitioner. It may also qualify as an eligible medical expense under the CRA's Medical Expense Tax Credit. We're happy to prepare an itemized estimate for your insurer — use Get an Insurance Estimate for this item, or add several to your cart and request one for everything at once. No charge, and it's not an order. • Hand wash only, in lukewarm water (about 30°C/86°F) with a mild detergent
  • Close all hook-and-loop (velcro) fasteners, straps, and zippers before washing to protect the fabric
  • Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or harsh chemicals; do not dry clean
  • Remove and clean any removable pads or cushions separately with water or mild soap
  • Air dry fully -- do not tumble dry, use a hair dryer, or dry in direct sunlight
  • Apply skin creams or lotions after removing the support in the evening, not right before putting it on, since they can affect the material's properties

medi publishes these steps for putting the brace on.

  • Open both hook-and-loop fastenings.
  • Put the brace on as you would a rucksack, passing your arms through the loops of the elastic bands.
  • Draw the upper belt band snug — firm but still comfortable — and fasten it across the stomach.
  • Draw the lower belt band and fasten it underneath the one you have just closed.

If the elastic straps are longer than you need, they can be cut to length.
