Omomed is a soft shoulder brace with a strap system that limits movement. A knitted cap covers the upper arm and shoulder, two straps cross under the opposite armpit, and a marked chest strap sets how far the shoulder may turn outwards, lift to the side and swing forwards.

It is for proximal humeral head, scapula or glenoid fractures and AC joint dislocations treated with or without surgery, for anterior shoulder dislocation, chronic anterior subluxation and painful omarthrosis treated without surgery, and after shoulder stabilisation, rotator interval reconstruction or refixation of the biceps tendon anchor.

The upper strap does the restricting: it rests the injured shoulder so it can recover, and pain eases as it does. Your doctor or fitter chooses which loop on the upper arm the chest strap threads through, which is what sets the limit. The lightly compressive knit eases swelling and muscle tension and helps centre the head of the upper arm bone in its socket, correcting the posture a painful shoulder falls into. The straps are placed so the brace can be worn under everyday clothing. Made as a left or a right.

Not suitable for: treatment of a posterior shoulder dislocation, with or without surgery; diseases or injuries of the skin where the brace sits, especially with inflammatory signs such as unusual warmth, swelling or redness; sensitivity or circulation disorders of the arm, for example with diabetes; or lymph drainage disorders and unexplained soft tissue swelling outside the treated area.

Hand wash only, in lukewarm water (about 30°C/86°F) with a mild detergent
Close all hook-and-loop (velcro) fasteners, straps, and zippers before washing to protect the fabric

medi publishes these steps for putting the brace on. The doctor or fitter decides which loop the white chest strap runs through, so have the brace set up before you wear it alone.

Pull the upper arm and shoulder cap up over the affected arm.
Pass the other arm in front of your body through the triangle of the strap system.
Draw the fastened belt backwards over your head, checking that the shoulder cap and the strap triangle sit properly.
Fasten the two straps that are sewn together and cross in the armpit on the healthy side: take the longer strap around the back, then secure the shorter one to it, with the hook-and-loop strip facing your body.
Thread the white chest strap through the loop on the upper arm that your doctor or fitter has specified, then fasten it back on itself.
Readjust the arm and shoulder part and all the straps so the fit is comfortable and the movement limit holds.
