Manumed Kidz is the children's version of the Manumed wrist brace. A pre-shaped aluminium splint runs along the palm side of the wrist and three straps hold it there; the brace slips on rather than wrapping around, so a child can manage it with one hand.

It is for a sprain or strain of the wrist, immobilisation after an operation, inflammation and other disorders of the tendons in the wrist, and inflammatory phases of rheumatic disorders.

The brace immobilises and stabilises the wrist. The splint lifts out and can be bent to the shape of a child's wrist — the fitter does this at the first fitting — and the wide middle strap is held on by hook-and-loop, so it can be moved along the brace before it is closed and the pressure put where it suits. Four sizes cover wrists from 10 to 15 cm around; above 15 cm, medi's adult Manumed takes over. Made as a left or a right.

Is this the right one for you?

  • Hand wash only, in lukewarm water (about 30°C/86°F) with a mild detergent
  • Close all hook-and-loop (velcro) fasteners, straps, and zippers before washing to protect the fabric
  • Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or harsh chemicals; do not dry clean
  • Remove and clean any removable pads or cushions separately with water or mild soap
  • Air dry fully -- do not tumble dry, use a hair dryer, or dry in direct sunlight
  • Apply skin creams or lotions after removing the support in the evening, not right before putting it on, since they can affect the material's properties

medi publishes these steps for putting the brace on, and asks that the first fitting is supervised by a healthcare professional.

  • If the splint needs shaping, take it out of the brace and bend it to the contour of the child's wrist.
  • Open all the straps and slide the hand into the brace, with the aluminium splint underneath, against the palm.
  • Close the front strap first, then the back strap.
  • Close the wide middle strap last; it is held on by hook-and-loop and can be moved along the underside of the brace before it is fastened.
