Lumbamed® plus is the Lumbamed lumbar brace with a massage pad added. The Vario-Flex pad sits in the back panel over the junction between the lumbar spine and the pelvis, and works on the muscles there as you move.

It is for lower back pain (lumbago) and ligamentous disorders, irritative conditions of the sacroiliac and facet joints, postural muscle imbalance in the lumbar spine, slight joint loosening such as osteochondrosis, spondylosis and spondylarthrosis, and postdiscectomy syndrome.

The compressive knit and the pad stabilise and relieve the area, stimulate circulation and give a pain-relieving massage, without taking over from the muscles; compression across the abdomen reduces lordosis (the natural inward curve of the lower back). A triangular tab opens the brace with one finger, the fastening adapts continuously to the shape of the abdomen, and its edges bend outwards rather than pressing in when you sit. A shaped cut at the groin decides whether the brace sits properly. medi prints that this brace contains semi-rigid material. This is the women's cut, sized on hip circumference; the men's cut is listed separately and is sized on the waist.

Is this the right one for you?

Choose this if the pain is muscular or postural — everyday lower back pain, strain or fatigue, with no disc or joint diagnosis.

Been told it is a disc? medi Lumbamed Disc Back Support — Women is built for disc protrusion and prolapse.

Been told it is the facet joints? medi Lumbamed Facet Back Support relieves those small spinal joints specifically.

Pain lower down, across your pelvis or hips? medi Lumbamed Sacro Pelvic Support targets the joints where your spine meets your pelvis.

  • Hand wash only, in lukewarm water (about 30°C/86°F) with a mild detergent
  • Close all hook-and-loop (velcro) fasteners, straps, and zippers before washing to protect the fabric
  • Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or harsh chemicals; do not dry clean
  • Remove and clean any removable pads or cushions separately with water or mild soap
  • Air dry fully -- do not tumble dry, use a hair dryer, or dry in direct sunlight
  • Apply skin creams or lotions after removing the support in the evening, not right before putting it on, since they can affect the material's properties

medi publishes these steps for putting the brace on. Ask a trained fitter to show you the first time.

  • Pull the textile cover over the massage pad and fix the pad on the central grey hook-and-loop area between the two stays, where your doctor or fitter has told you to.
  • Positioned correctly, the lower end of the pad rests just above the fold between the buttocks when the brace is worn.
  • Slip your left hand into the inner hand strap on the left fastening side, take the brace around your body, then slip your right hand into the outer hand strap on the right side.
  • Pull both fastening sides to the middle so they overlap as far as possible and press together evenly.
  • The brace is on properly when the lower edge of the fastening is just above the groin.

medi says to wear Lumbamed plus against the skin and under clothing so the Clima Comfort knit works, that supports have their greatest effect during physical activity, and that it can in principle be worn all day as long as it stays comfortable — but it should come off for long breaks such as long periods of sitting, long drives and sleeping. It may be worn in water; rinse it thoroughly afterwards. If wearing it causes excessive pain or discomfort, take it off and contact your doctor or fitter.
