medi Armschlinge Kidz is an arm sling sized for children. A soft cotton sleeve carries the forearm, a shoulder belt passes across the back, and a hip belt holds the arm against the body so the whole limb stays still.

It is for immobilisation after shoulder surgery and after a dislocated shoulder.

Taking the weight of the arm off the shoulder is what relieves the shoulder, upper arm and elbow, and the hip belt is what stops the arm swinging. The sleeve folds up and refastens with hook-and-loop tabs, so a single sleeve covers a range of forearm lengths, and a thumb sleeve can be ordered separately if the hand needs supporting too. The material is soft cotton in a child-friendly jeans-blue design. medi prints no contraindications for it, but asks that if symptoms suddenly worsen the sling is taken off and a doctor or fitter contacted.

This support may not be covered. No manufacturer or distributor source describes it as containing rigid or semi-rigid bracing, which is what plans look for in a brace, so it is not automatically eligible. Some Canadian extended health benefit plans (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada) still reimburse it when accompanied by a valid prescription from your physician or nurse practitioner. We're happy to prepare an itemized estimate for your insurer — use Get an Insurance Estimate for this item, or add several to your cart and request one for everything at once. No charge, and it's not an order.

If you're not sure which size to take, contact us and we'll help you measure.

  • Hand wash only, in lukewarm water (about 30°C/86°F) with a mild detergent
  • Close all hook-and-loop (velcro) fasteners, straps, and zippers before washing to protect the fabric
  • Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or harsh chemicals; do not dry clean
  • Remove and clean any removable pads or cushions separately with water or mild soap
  • Air dry fully -- do not tumble dry, use a hair dryer, or dry in direct sunlight
  • Apply skin creams or lotions after removing the support in the evening, not right before putting it on, since they can affect the material's properties

medi publishes these steps for putting the sling on, and asks that qualified staff instruct you the first time.

  • Open the hook-and-loop fastening of the sleeve and lay the arm into the sling.
  • Take the shoulder belt across the back, pull it through the sleeve and secure it with its hook-and-loop fastener.
  • Wrap the hip belt around the body and fasten it with its hook-and-loop strip.
  • If the sleeve is longer than the forearm, fold it up and secure it with the tabs.

A thumb sleeve is available separately. If symptoms suddenly worsen, take the sling off and contact your doctor or fitter.
