Cutimed® Sorbion® Sorbact® combines bacteria binding with a super-absorbent gelling core, for wounds producing very high levels of exudate. The core holds the fluid as a gel and keeps holding it under compression, so the dressing does not strike through or need changing several times a day.

The dressing surface is coated with a highly hydrophobic (water-repelling) fatty acid derivative. Wound bacteria and fungi are hydrophobic too, so when the dressing is moist they are drawn to that surface and bind to it irreversibly, unable to move back into the wound. They leave with each dressing change. The action is physical rather than chemical, so nothing is killed in the wound and no cell debris or endotoxin is released to delay healing — and because no antiseptic or antibiotic is used, no resistance can develop.
