The ViscoBalance® is a silicone heel lift worn in the shoe to make up a difference in leg length. It raises the shorter side by 3, 5 or 10 mm, so the pelvis and spine are not pulled out of line with every step, and the one-sided loading that causes ankle, knee, hip and back pain is reduced.

The lift is anatomically shaped rather than a flat wedge, so the heel is cradled and cushioned as well as raised. That same slight lift takes tension off the Achilles tendon, which is why Bauerfeind also lists it for Achilles tendon complaints — reduce the strain on the hindfoot and the tendon insertion gets a chance to settle.

It is made from a high-quality silicone that is gentle on skin, easy to wipe clean and non-slip, and it can be moved between walking, sports and work shoes. Like every Bauerfeind product, it is made in Germany.

Braces and orthoses built with semi-rigid components are usually covered under Canadian extended health benefit plans (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada) when accompanied by a valid prescription from your physician or nurse practitioner. It may also qualify as an eligible medical expense under the CRA's Medical Expense Tax Credit. No charge, and it's not an order. Coverage details, annual limits, and prescription requirements vary by plan, so please confirm your specific benefits with your provider and keep your prescription and itemized receipt for your claim.

Sizes below EU 35 are children’s, and US kids’ sizing is unisex — one number serves both rows. Child sizes run up to 13 and then youth sizing restarts at 1, so youth 1 is a BIGGER foot than child 13.

EU is Bauerfeind’s own figure and the one printed inside the shoe; the US/Canadian equivalents are the usual conversion and can differ by half a size between shoe brands.
