Immobilization of the wrist and parts of the forearm, with thumb brace

In the case of irritation and combination injuries that affect the wrist as well as the thumb carpometacarpal (where the wrist meets the long bones of the hand) joint and thumb basal joint, the ManuLoc Rhizo long immobilizes the wrist and holds the thumb securely in a relaxed position with a support. The construction of the orthosis can be individually adjusted in line with the progress of treatment, whereby the mobility of the thumb basal joint is gradually increased and eventually the thumb support can be removed.

  • The orthosis prevents incorrect movements of the proximal and distal parts of the wrist as well as of the metacarpophalangeal (the knuckle joints where the fingers meet the hand) and carpometacarpal (where the wrist meets the long bones of the hand) joints of the thumb
  • Limitation of rotational movements in the wrist thanks to the orthosis’ longer lever
  • Immobilization of the wrist thanks to shapeable aluminum stays
  • Stabilization of the wrist in a functional position thanks to anatomically shaped metacarpal stay
  • Practical Velcro fastenings and retraction stops on the straps make it easy for the patient to put on the orthosis using only one hand
  • Edges finished using ultrasonic welding for increased durability, comfort, and an im proved look; sensitive skin in the elbow area is softly cushioned / enclosed
  • Polyamide (PA)
  • Aluminium (AlMg3)
  • Polyurethane (PUR)
  • Polyether
  • Polyoxymethylene (POM)
  • Polyester (PES)
  • Post-traumatic or postoperative irritation, e. g. following treatment with a plaster cast in the case of scaphoid fractures
  • Pre-operative care
  • Tenosynovitis at the radial side (moderate)
  • Osteoarthritis of the carpometacarpal (where the wrist meets the long bones of the hand) joint of the thumb (severe)
  • Sprains / contusions
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome (moderate)
  • Collateral ligament injuries, e. g. skier’s thumb

This is a medical-grade orthopaedic brace that incorporates rigid stays. Braces and orthoses built with rigid components are usually covered under Canadian extended health benefit plans (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Great-West Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada) when accompanied by a valid prescription from your physician or nurse practitioner. It may also qualify as an eligible medical expense under the CRA's Medical Expense Tax Credit. We're happy to provide a pre-approval form for your insurance provider — just contact us before ordering. Coverage details, annual limits, and prescription requirements vary by plan, so please confirm your specific benefits with your provider and keep your prescription and itemized receipt for your claim.

Sized on wrist circumference — measure around the narrowest part of the wrist, just below the wrist bone. Check this product's size chart below before ordering. If you're between sizes, contact us and we'll help you measure.

  • Machine wash in cold or cool water (about 30°C/86°F) on the gentle or delicate cycle
  • Wash with similar colours using a regular detergent with no additives -- avoid fabric softener
  • Use a mesh laundry bag, and secure hook-and-loop (velcro) tabs first to protect the knit
  • Hand washing is gentler and may extend the product's life
  • For light use, washing every two to three wears is enough; heavy use needs more frequent washing
  • Lay flat to air dry -- do not hang to dry (the fabric can stretch out of shape) and do not tumble dry
