• Peel the pads away from the hook dots to take them off the collar.
• Hand wash the pads with mild soap and warm water. Do not machine wash and do not use bleach. Rinse thoroughly.
• Wipe the plastic shell with mild soap and water, rinse it, and towel dry before re-attaching the pads.
• Press the pads with a towel to squeeze out the water, then lay them flat to air dry. Do not use heat.
• Use a spare pad set while the first one is drying.

Aspen prints these steps for a clinician fitting the collar; a first fitting should be supervised.

• With the head in neutral alignment, press the back panel down and slide it behind the neck, with the loop straps between the ear and the trapezius (the sloping muscle between neck and shoulder).
• Start with the front panel at its lowest setting. Slide the collar up the chest and pivot it up and under the chin, bringing the sides up over the trapezius muscles.
• Hold the collar against the chest, pull the dial out to unlock it and turn it clockwise until the chin piece supports the chin, then release the dial to lock it.
• Attach the loop strap on each side, then tighten one side at a time and re-attach for a snug, symmetrical fit.
• Check the fit: the chin plastic should sit flush with the end of the chin, hiding the chin dots on the pad.
• Check the airway is clear — the back of the chin piece must not touch the throat. If it does, release the strap and reposition the chin piece.
• Re-check the height and the back panel straps whenever the wearer changes position.
