The replacement gel pack for the Aspen® Vista® MultiPost Therapy Collar. It slides into the pouch built into the collar, so heat or cold is applied to the neck through the brace rather than instead of it.

Aspen lists cold for pain and swelling, and heat for pain. For cold, the pack goes in the freezer for one to two hours and stays flexible when it comes out. For heat, it is warmed in a microwave in short bursts — ten seconds to start, then five at a time — and checked between each.

It is for external use only, and is not for anyone sensitive to temperature extremes.

Not suitable for: hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the materials the pack is made from; swelling of the lymphatic tissue (the drainage network under the skin) caused by circulatory disorders; anyone whose clinician has told them not to wear a brace. Aspen also states the pack should not be used by people who are sensitive to temperature extremes — including those with circulatory problems, diabetes, nerve damage, paralysis or sensitive skin — that heat should not be used by anyone with circulatory problems, and that it must not be used wet, with towels, over broken or sensitive skin, or with analgesic creams, balms, liniments or lotions.

This is a replacement therapy pack for the Aspen Vista MultiPost Therapy Collar, not a standalone orthosis. On its own it provides no bracing or compression, so it would not normally be assessed by a plan separately — coverage follows the brace it belongs to. Bought on its own, this part is generally not eligible for reimbursement, so please confirm your plan's terms with your provider before ordering. Aspen prints these steps. Check the temperature of the pack against your own skin before it goes near the neck.

Cold: put the pack in the freezer for one to two hours, then take it out and use it — it stays flexible when frozen.
Hot: the pack must be at room temperature first, never frozen. Put it in a microwave-safe container and heat at full power for 10 seconds in a 600 W microwave.
Check the temperature. If it is not hot enough, go back in for 5 seconds at a time, adding no more than another 20 seconds in total.
Stop heating if the pack balloons out — that means it is overheated. Look it over for splits or leaks before taking it out, and let it cool first if any are there.
Slide the pack into the collar's pouch, position it, then apply the collar and tighten as usual.
Take the pack out after use and wait at least an hour before reapplying. After a cold treatment, put it back in the freezer.
After a cold treatment, check the skin everywhere the pack touched; if it is discoloured or red, stop and speak to a clinician.
