The Aspen® Vista® Cervical Collar is a rigid collar that limits neck movement while the cervical spine heals — after a fracture, after neck surgery, or following a whiplash injury.

One collar covers the range that would otherwise take six fixed sizes. A dial on the front panel raises and lowers the chin piece and self-locks when released, so the height can be reset as the wearer changes position without swapping the collar. Cotton-lined pads sit at every contact point, and the shape of the back panel reduces the pressure over the occipital (the back of the head) area during long periods of wear.

It is sold as a single collar or as a 20-pack for clinics. Replacement pad sets, a large back panel and a version bundled with a spare pad set are listed separately.

Not suitable for: hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the materials the brace is made from; swelling of the lymphatic tissue (the drainage network under the skin) caused by circulatory disorders; anyone whose clinician has told them not to wear a brace.

Aspen prints these steps for a clinician fitting the collar; a first fitting should be supervised.

With the head kept in neutral alignment, press the back panel down and slide it behind the neck, with the loop straps running between the ear and the trapezius (the sloping muscle between neck and shoulder).
Start with the front panel at its lowest setting. Pull the sides of the front panel apart and place the bottom of the tracheal aperture (the breathing opening) at the sternal notch, the dip you can feel at the base of the throat.
Bring the sides of the front panel up and over the trapezius muscles. At this stage the chin piece need not touch the chin.
Hold the collar against the chest, pull the dial out to unlock it and turn it clockwise to raise the chin piece. Release the dial once the chin piece supports the chin and it locks itself.
Attach the loop strap on each side, then tighten one side at a time and re-attach, matching the two sides so the fit is snug and symmetrical.
Check that the back of the chin piece is not pressing on the throat. If it is, lift the back ends of the side panels up off the trapezius muscles.
Re-check the height and the back panel straps whenever the wearer changes position.
