The Aspen® OA Knee Wrap is an unloader brace for osteoarthritis in one side of the knee, built as a wrap rather than a sleeve. It opens flat and closes around the leg, so it can be put on without pulling anything over the foot — which is the difference that matters if bending down or lifting the leg is hard.

A single hinge on one side carries an adjustment screw that sets how much weight is pushed off the worn compartment of the joint, turned an eighth to a quarter of a turn at a time until it helps without being uncomfortable. The same hinge accepts stops that cap how far the knee may straighten or bend.

Six sizes and a left or right frame mean it is fitted to the leg rather than stretched onto it.

Is this the right one for you?

Choose this if the diagnosis is arthritis in the knee. Unloader braces shift weight off the worn side of the joint; warming compression supports ease the ache and stiffness.

Everyday ache or swelling? Bauerfeind GenuTrain Comfort Knee Brace with 5cm Top Band is a lighter compression support.

Torn ligament, or repaired one? Aspen Ci Ligament Knee Brace is a rigid frame brace built to protect the ligament.

This is a medical-grade orthopaedic brace that incorporates rigid structural support. Braces and orthoses built with rigid components are usually covered under Canadian extended health benefit plans (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada) when accompanied by a valid prescription from your physician or nurse practitioner. It may also qualify as an eligible medical expense under the CRA's Medical Expense Tax Credit. We're happy to prepare an itemized estimate for your insurer — use Get an Insurance Estimate for this item, or add several to your cart and request one for everything at once. No charge, and it's not an order. Coverage details, annual limits, and prescription requirements vary by plan, so please confirm your specific benefits with your provider and keep your prescription and itemized receipt for your claim.

  • Hand wash only at 30 °C (86 °F)
  • Wash with mild detergent
  • Air dry
  • Do not use bleach or other chemicals

Aspen prints these steps; the amount of unloading should be set by the clinician who prescribed the brace.

  • Open every fastener and set the horizontal position of the hinge to 0 degrees.
  • Sitting down, bend the knee to about 30 degrees.
  • Hold the brace against the side of the leg so the centre of the hinge lines up with the centre of the kneecap.
  • Close the upper calf tab (1) first, tightening it so it is comfortable and stops the brace sliding, then the lower thigh tab (2), the lower calf tab (3) and the upper thigh tab (4).
  • Pull the calf strap (5) through its buckle and secure it tightly, then do the same with the thigh strap (6).
  • Set the unloading with the adjustment tool: clockwise decreases it, counterclockwise increases it. Turn an eighth to a quarter of a turn at a time while sitting, and check how it feels before going further.
  • To take the brace off, loosen and remove the thigh and calf straps, release the tabs, and unwrap it.
