The Aspen® Horizon™ 456 TLSO restricts movement of the thoracic and lumbar spine — the middle and lower back — while it heals after a fracture or surgery. A belt at the waist carries an upright back panel and a yoke that sits across the top of the back, with shoulder straps and a chest buckle holding the upper section in place.

The height of that yoke is adjustable, so the brace can be set to sit at C7, the bony bump at the base of the neck, on different builds. The belt itself covers four sizing positions from a single brace, and both halves tighten separately: the left pull tab controls the lower compression, the right the upper.

It is easy to put on and take off compared with a rigid shell, which matters on a brace that has to be worn for weeks.

One size, adjustable. The numbers are the four settings on the brace’s side panels — peel up the inside end of each panel, set it to the one covering your waist measurement, then fine-tune.

Fits a waist of 61–127 cm, and up to 178 cm with Aspen extension panels.

Aspen: the settings follow standard pants sizes closely, and are guidelines only.

Aspen prints these steps; the first fitting of a post-surgical brace should be supervised by your clinician.

Set the size first: peel up the inside end of each side panel, adjust until the brace closes properly, and press it back down. Aspen's sizes follow standard trouser sizing closely and are guidelines only.
Place the pull tabs about 2 inches (5 cm) from the plastic at the back, then pull the ends apart so the brace is fully extended.
Put the brace on with the back panel centred and low on the back, and wrap it firmly around the abdomen with the right side overlapping the left.
Both the top and bottom edges should feel snug. If either gapes, take it off and reapply, angling the ends until both edges sit close.
Slip each thumb into the pull tabs, extend them out and away from the brace, and press the hook side onto the loop material when the compression is right.
Set the vertical height with the posterior adjustment panel so the yoke rests at C7 — the bony bump you can feel at the base of the neck.
Pull and tighten the shoulder straps, then fasten and tighten the chest buckle to draw the straps away from the armpits.
After the first fitting, sit down, stand up again, and re-adjust — the fit changes between the two.
