Sporlastic RHIZO-HiT Thumb Brace

The RHIZO-HiT® is a textile thumb brace. It steadies the thumb’s base joint and the saddle joint at the bottom of the thumb, and limits movement at the wrist as well, while the grip stays usable.

An aluminium inlay runs through it and is anatomically mouldable, so a fitter can shape the hold to the individual thumb. A circular strap runs round the forearm with a sling and a block that stops the brace sliding down off the hand — the part that keeps a soft thumb brace where it was put.

It is used for moderate to severe rhizarthrosis with marked subluxation, with or without a hypermobile saddle joint, for arthrosis of the thumb-side wrist bones, for injuries and tendon instabilities around the base and saddle joints such as skier’s thumb, for thumb fractures, for de Quervain’s tendovaginitis stenosans, and after thumb or finger surgery.

Can be worn on the right or the left.

  • Wash RHIZO-HiT gently in lukewarm water (30 °C) with mild detergent, then let it air-dry and do not place it on a radiator
  • Do not dry it in the tumble dryer, on the heating or in the microwave
  • Please close the hook-and-loop fasteners when doing so and take care not to accidentally change the individually moulded aluminium reinforcement by bending it

Sporlastic prints these steps in the instructions for use supplied with the product.

  • RHIZO-HiT® can be worn on the left or right side.
  • Close the end of the thumb tube before putting it on so that the opening encloses your thumb firmly but still comfortably.
  • To achieve an optimal fit on the thumb, the hook band should lie fully on the velour without protruding at the edge.
  • Slip the affected thumb into the brace. The lateral widenings on the strap prevent the strap from slipping out of the deflection loop, thus enabling easy entry.
  • Grasp the non-elastic strap at the hook-and-loop fastener surface with thumb and index finger and fix RHIZO-HiT by closing the strap at the wrist.
  • The deflection loop allows a controlled pull of the strap with little effort to stabilise the support on the wrist.
  • Adjust the tension of the strap in such a way that you continue to feel comfortable wearing the brace with a noticeable stabilisation of the thumb and wrist. It may be necessary to readjust the hook-and-loop strap around the thumb.
  • The illustration in the instructions for use shows the correct fit of RHIZO-HiT.
