The Cotton Underliner is a light knee-high cotton sock worn underneath a compression stocking. It does three jobs: it protects fragile skin and holds a wound dressing in place, it adds 10-15 mmHg of its own compression, and — the reason most people buy it — it gives the stocking a smooth surface to slide over.

That last one is the difference between a stocking that fights you at the heel and one that goes on. It is the accessory Sigvaris pairs with its Natural Rubber stockings, which are the firmest and hardest to don in the range.
