medi Clavicle support Kidz is a collarbone brace sized for children. It arrives ready to wear — nothing to measure, cut, pad or tie, unlike a traditional tubular bandage — and goes on over the head, with belts that pass under the armpits and fasten at the back.

It is for post-traumatic and post-operative fractures of the collarbone, and for acromioclavicular dislocation.

Drawn tight, the belts fix the shoulder girdle and hold the shoulders back, and holding the shoulders back is what lets a fractured collarbone knit in the right position rather than shortened. The material is soft, in a child-friendly jeans-blue design, and two sizes cover ages three to twelve.

Not suitable for: any fitting that compresses the airways, or that compresses the neurovascular bundle — the bundle of nerves and blood vessels running from under the collarbone into the arm. If the child becomes short of breath, or an arm goes numb, tingly or cold, loosen the belts and speak to your fitter.

This support may not be covered. No manufacturer or distributor source describes it as containing rigid or semi-rigid bracing, which is what plans look for in a brace, so it is not automatically eligible. Some Canadian extended health benefit plans (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada) still reimburse it when accompanied by a valid prescription from your physician or nurse practitioner. We're happy to prepare an itemized estimate for your insurer — use Get an Insurance Estimate for this item, or add several to your cart and request one for everything at once. No charge, and it's not an order.

If you're not sure which size to take, contact us and we'll help you measure.

  • Hand wash only, in lukewarm water (about 30°C/86°F) with a mild detergent
  • Close all hook-and-loop (velcro) fasteners, straps, and zippers before washing to protect the fabric
  • Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or harsh chemicals; do not dry clean
  • Remove and clean any removable pads or cushions separately with water or mild soap
  • Air dry fully -- do not tumble dry, use a hair dryer, or dry in direct sunlight
  • Apply skin creams or lotions after removing the support in the evening, not right before putting it on, since they can affect the material's properties

medi publishes these steps for putting the brace on. It needs no measuring, cutting, padding or tying.

  • Pull the upper part of the brace over the child's head so the belts rest on the shoulders.
  • Draw the belts under the armpits and into the matching loops.
  • Fasten them firmly with the hook-and-loop closures, so the shoulders are held back.

Check that breathing is easy and that neither arm goes numb, tingly or cold; if it does, loosen the belts and speak to your fitter.
