The SecuTec® Genu Dorsal is the back-applied version of Bauerfeind's rigid knee orthosis. It is prescribed when a knee has to be held and guided from the outside — after a torn or reconstructed ligament, a collateral ligament injury or meniscus surgery — and its hinges can be set to limit how far the knee bends and straightens.

The frame is a light aluminium alloy, so the orthosis stabilises firmly while staying slim enough to wear under trousers. Breathable, non-slip pads hold it on the leg, and an orthotist can reshape the frame to your leg and offload the inner or outer side of the joint.

What makes this the dorsal version is the calf shell: it sits behind the lower leg and its self-regulating inclination angle adapts to the shape of the calf muscle, which gives a secure fit and keeps pressure off the front edge of the shin bone. The frontal version, which is put on from the front, is listed separately. Like every Bauerfeind product, it is made in Germany.

Is this the right one for you?

Choose this if a ligament is torn or has been repaired — the cruciate ligaments inside the knee, or the ones at the sides.

Knee gives way or shifts? Bauerfeind GenuTrain S Pro Knee Brace adds hinges for side-to-side stability.

Prescribed a brace after surgery? Bauerfeind GenuLoc Knee Immobilizer holds the knee still or limits how far it bends.

  • Six straps in combination with a hard frame offer comprehensive stabilization following ACL, PCL or complex ligament injuries in accordance with the four-point principle
  • Easily positioned at the front and fastened by the patient, reducing stress on the injured knee
  • Tool-free limitation and immobilization of the joint; angle is clearly visible from the outside
  • Anatomically correct and secure fit
  • Extremely lightweight, slim and stable, thanks to specially processed light metal alloy frame
  • High degree of rotational stability based on anatomically contoured frame design, including for the edges of the tibia
  • Rupture of the anterior and / or posterior cruciate ligament (ACL / PCL)
  • After ligament surgery / ligament reconstruction
  • Severe and / or complex instability (traumatic, degenerative; e. g. "unhappy triad”)
  • Collateral ligament injuries
  • To restrict the knee joint’s range of motion (e. g. after meniscus refixation or meniscal implantation)
  • Patellar fracture (non-surgical and post-operative)

This is a medical-grade orthopaedic brace that incorporates rigid structural support. Braces and orthoses built with rigid components are usually covered under Canadian extended health benefit plans (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada) when accompanied by a valid prescription from your physician or nurse practitioner. It may also qualify as an eligible medical expense under the CRA's Medical Expense Tax Credit. We're happy to prepare an itemized estimate for your insurer — use Get an Insurance Estimate for this item, or add several to your cart and request one for everything at once. No charge, and it's not an order. Coverage details, annual limits, and prescription requirements vary by plan, so please confirm your specific benefits with your provider and keep your prescription and itemized receipt for your claim.

Measure standing, with the knee bent to about 30 degrees — a slight bend, not a right angle.

Check the size chart below. If your measurements don't fit a size on it, contact us and we'll help.

Size1234567
Top circumference (cm)17 cm above the middle of the knee, with the knee bent to 30°38 – 4241 – 4544 – 4948 – 5351 – 5754 – 6060 – 72
Bottom circumference (cm)15 cm below the middle of the knee, with the knee bent to 30°28 – 3231 – 3534 – 3836 – 4039 – 4342 – 4646 – 51

The 30° marked on the diagram is 30° of bend from a straight leg — a slightly bent knee, not a right angle.

  • Never expose the orthosis to direct heat — no radiator, no direct sunlight.
  • The aluminium parts are coated and can be cleaned with a pH-neutral soap.
  • Hand wash the padding and straps at 30°C (86°F).
