Pads are the part of a collar that wears out. On a collar worn day and night they absorb sweat, flatten under the chin, and stop protecting the skin at the pressure points the collar spreads load across. A fresh set restores that without replacing the collar.

Aspen's own instruction is to keep a second set so one can be washed and air-dried while the other is worn — the pads must never go in a machine or a dryer.

Peel the pads away from the hook dots to take them off the collar.
Hand wash the pads with mild soap and warm water. Do not machine wash and do not use bleach. Rinse thoroughly.
Wipe the plastic shell with mild soap and water, rinse it, and towel dry before re-attaching the pads.
Press the pads with a towel to squeeze out the water, then lay them flat to air dry. Do not use heat.
Use a spare pad set while the first one is drying.
