• Peel the pads away from the hook dots to take them off the collar.
• Hand wash the pads with mild soap and warm water. Do not machine wash and do not use bleach. Rinse thoroughly.
• Wipe the plastic shell with mild soap and water, rinse it, and towel dry before re-attaching the pads.
• Press the pads with a towel to squeeze out the water, then lay them flat to air dry. Do not use heat.
• Use a spare pad set while the first one is drying.

Aspen prints these steps for a clinician fitting the collar; a first fitting should be supervised.

• With the head kept in neutral alignment, press the back panel down and slide it behind the neck, with the loop straps running between the ear and the trapezius (the sloping muscle between neck and shoulder).
• Start with the front panel at its lowest setting. Pull the sides of the front panel apart and place the bottom of the tracheal aperture (the breathing opening) at the sternal notch, the dip you can feel at the base of the throat.
• Bring the sides of the front panel up and over the trapezius muscles. At this stage the chin piece need not touch the chin.
• Hold the collar against the chest, pull the dial out to unlock it and turn it clockwise to raise the chin piece. Release the dial once the chin piece supports the chin and it locks itself.
• Attach the loop strap on each side, then tighten one side at a time and re-attach, matching the two sides so the fit is snug and symmetrical.
• Check that the back of the chin piece is not pressing on the throat. If it is, lift the back ends of the side panels up off the trapezius muscles.
• Re-check the height and the back panel straps whenever the wearer changes position.
