The Aspen® FLX 637 LSO is an inelastic lumbar-sacral brace with rigid lateral panels added at the sides, for lower back pain that needs more side-to-side control than a plain belt gives — after an injury, after lumbar surgery, or through a flare of chronic pain.

The lateral panels sit at the midline of each side and can be moved along the brace so they land where the wearer needs them. Inelastic construction means the shell does not stretch as you move, so the compression you set is the compression you keep.

Two pull tabs tighten it, the left controlling the lower compression and the right the upper, and one brace covers four sizing positions, with the inside end of each side panel peeling up to move.

Is this the right one for you?

Choose this if the pain is muscular or postural — everyday lower back pain, strain or fatigue, with no disc or joint diagnosis.

Been told it is a disc? Sporlastic VERTEBRADYN AKTIV Back Brace is built for disc protrusion and prolapse.

Been told it is the facet joints? Bauerfeind LumboLoc Back Brace relieves those small spinal joints specifically.

Pain lower down, across your pelvis or hips? medi Lumbamed Sacro Pelvic Support targets the joints where your spine meets your pelvis.

This is a medical-grade orthopaedic brace that incorporates rigid structural support. Braces and orthoses built with rigid components are usually covered under Canadian extended health benefit plans (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada) when accompanied by a valid prescription from your physician or nurse practitioner. It may also qualify as an eligible medical expense under the CRA's Medical Expense Tax Credit. We're happy to prepare an itemized estimate for your insurer — use Get an Insurance Estimate for this item, or add several to your cart and request one for everything at once. No charge, and it's not an order. Coverage details, annual limits, and prescription requirements vary by plan, so please confirm your specific benefits with your provider and keep your prescription and itemized receipt for your claim.

One size, adjustable. The numbers are the four settings marked on the brace’s side panels — peel up the inside end of each panel, set it to the one nearest your waist measurement, then fine-tune.

Fits a waist of 71–137 cm, and up to 163 cm with the Aspen extension panel.

Aspen: the settings follow standard pants sizes closely, and are guidelines only.

  • Hand wash only at 30 °C (86 °F)
  • Wash with mild detergent
  • Air dry
  • Do not use bleach or other chemicals

Aspen prints these steps; the first fitting of a post-surgical brace should be supervised by your clinician.

  • Set the size first: peel up the inside end of each side panel, adjust until the brace closes properly, and press it back down. Aspen's sizes follow standard trouser sizing closely and are guidelines only.
  • Place the pull tabs about 2 inches (5 cm) from the plastic at the back of the brace, then pull the ends apart so the brace is fully extended.
  • Put the brace on with the back panel centred and low on the back, then wrap it firmly around the abdomen with the right side overlapping the left.
  • Both the top and bottom edges should feel snug. If either gapes, take it off and reapply, angling the ends — for some people quite steeply — until both edges sit close.
  • Slip your thumbs through the holes in the pull tabs and pull away from your body. The left tab controls the lower compression, the right tab the upper.
  • Press the pull tabs down onto the hook-and-loop at the front to hold the compression.
  • Loosen or tighten either tab as the day goes on; easing the upper portion off a little when sitting is often more comfortable.
