Bauerfeind

Bauerfeind was founded in 1929 in Zeulenroda, in Thuringia, where Bruno Bauerfeind began making medical compression hosiery; within ten years the workshop employed more than a hundred people. Political upheaval forced the family out of East Germany in 1949 and they rebuilt near Darmstadt, and the founder's grandson took the company over in 1972. It is family-owned still, and its products are still made in Germany.

The compression side is VenoTrain — Micro, Soft, Impuls, Business and Discretion, plus the Ulcertec system for venous leg ulcers — in knee high, thigh high, pantyhose and maternity, and a range of sports socks and sleeves.

On the orthopaedic side the knitted Train braces (GenuTrain, MalleoTrain, ManuTrain, EpiTrain, OmoTrain, AchilloTrain, LumboTrain, MyoTrain, CoxaTrain) work through a compression knit and a shaped silicone pad rather than a rigid frame, while the Loc, SecuTec, SofTec and Spinova ranges add mechanical stabilisation where an injury needs it.
